Al-Nassma – Camel Milk Chocolate
When a cool breeze cuts through the heat of the desert, this is called Al Nassma…a wind from the sea delivering rejuvenation and well-being. Al Nassma is also the name of a true first in the world of chocolate: milk chocolate made with camels’ milk. The idea came while visiting the Persian Gulf region, specifically Dubai, a part of the United Arab Emirates. Dubai is the source of the flowing white gold used in Al Nassma chocolate – camels’ milk.
When chocolatier Johann Georg Hochleitner first encountered camels, the inventive Austrian immediately fell under the spell of these fascinating animals. There are innumerable myths and legends surrounding this ship of the desert, telling of trade spanning the Sahara and of harrowing adventures. Alone the camel, as is recognised throughout the Middle East, knows the hundredth and final name of Allah.
